I have tried now every possibility:
1)top op line just under the top of the grey line with bottom of line just under the bottom of the grey line
2)top of line just on the top of the grey line with bottom of line just on the bottom of the grey line
3)top of line just one pixel above the grey line with bottom of line just one pixel under the grey line
still line is not restricted to the Detail band.

Option 3 is, I believe how you advised.
