The lyrics written by Paul Simon and/or Art Garfunkel quite often make little sense. And there is an explanation. About 30+ years ago I went to Paul Simon's concert in Boston. Between songs, he would tell the audience about things he and Art did when they were writing their songs. One thing he said was that the effort was mostly on music and, as far as lyrics, they would find word expression or line from poems or made up stuff, just so that rhythmically they would go with music. This is why, he said, the lyrics of their songs were not easily understood :).
