>>>>>'New Zealand has no harmful animals like venomous snakes, scorpions or venomous insects, so its sole venomous native spider – the rare katipō – has almost mythical >>status. Since the late 19th century there have been accidental introductions of the venomous redback and white-tailed spiders from Australia'

>>>
>>>Not sure why a firearm would be used against a spider. Try rabbits. Or possums. Or wallabies. Or feral goats. Even deer. It's such an issue that Government even mandates landowner control programs for some of those pests.
>>>
>>>For some of these a .22 variant might be preferred (e.g. see here for AR-15 versus wallabies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CGZxCmRYgY ... or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIWCVhLkYlY with good explanation at about 2:20) but not for those larger ones, which is why I asked the caliber questions. The new NZ ban doesn't include .22 caliber rimfire semi-autos. Since you suggested I don't know what I'm talking about, perhaps you can explain why that matters. ;-)
>>>
>>>>>btw i live in the Perigord noir mst of the time. Dense forests with wild boar. Even a hunting rifle is frowned upon there as too dangerous.
>>>
>>>I know the style of forest: totally different from NZ primal terrain that can be like jungle or alpine desert. Even though the Captain Cooker" in my sig actually is a wild pig, my own experience of meeting one without a firearm involves rapid tree climbing to avoid what happens just after 1:00 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJkX8j1tmm4 . IMHO you'd find quite a few differences between NZ and long-settled European terrain- maybe look at "NZ hunting" on Youtube?
>>>
>>>As I said- we'll manage, and there's to be exemptions for pest control- but this feels like one of those "you don't know what you've got till it's gone."
>>
>>sorry for the delay i had to fend off a were rabbit.
>>Feral goats... i see your point , dangerous indeed. Sure you don't want to write an episode of Monty Python ?
>>Friend of mine went to Kodiak island last year during the salmon season to observe grisly bears None of them got any kind of fire weapon and they all survived.
>>I do oc admit that a grisly is no match for a feral goat.
>
>"Killing animals is extreme fun" Enough said.
>btw i know a lot about fire arms but that doesn't mean i'm a fan of the NRA

To a farmer a "pest' is a threat to one's livelihood.
Here in the US farmers use automatic weapons to kill pests that threaten cops.
Can they do it without automatic weapons?
Of course they can.
George Washington raised tobacco armed with a musket.
