Agreed.

I first read Ralph Kimball's works (around 2005) regarding the shaping of business data into facts and dimensions (with the different types of relationships), I thought to myself, "wow, I was basically doing that with my boss in 1989....and I didn't know Ralph Kimball from Ralph on the TV show Happy Days"

Certainly Kimball provided some great methodologies and great form for the approach that helped me strengthen my data warehousing efforts....but it certainly wasn't new. And Kimball himself acknowledged that syndicated data suppliers (like IRI and AC Nielsen) had been shaping data into similar forms long before he wrote his books.

So yes, often, "there's nothing new under the sun".
