thx a lot - useful info, as I would have tested UI last and not as diligent as CPU and disc "feeling" ;-)
>You'd be surprised. On Azure I had several VMs I had set up that appeared to be OK with the server running but the UI bits where practically unusable. That's even with the UI optimization flag flipped into desktop mode rather than server mode.

>Vultr was fine and Vultr's in and outband bandwidth is extremely fast as well. For Azure and AWS it took higher end machines to match that. And for those it's crucial you pick SSD drives (which their low end plans (or at least didn't used to) have).

I started RDP'ing single machines via 64Kb ISDN (good enough to set up long running jobs with mouse) and was comfortable herding small groups of dedicated machines, up to a dozen, via one machine connected via ADSL or 3G. Nowadays with 4G and almost everywhere 50Mb down the only rule remaining is: do NOT use a debugger via RDP ;-)
>>But all that was on dedicated machines - what is different on VM/cloud services to warrant the "smooth" check?
