In addition to Thomas' comments:

1. Google your laptop's exact make/model to see if anyone else is seeing the same problem. If it's still under warranty, contact the manufacturer and get some tech support

2. Check if there are any system BIOS or motherboard driver updates available e.g. Intel RST

3. Task Manager and Resource Monitor are your friends; get an idea of CPU and disk utilization while the system is OK vs while it is slow. Task Manager can also show CPU frequency, so you can tell if it's thermal throttling

4. You can run the TaskList command in a CMD window to get the list of running tasks and services while it is normal, and while it is slow - then compare. Its /FO option can dump to a CSV file

5. If you know when the slowdowns occur, check your Windows System and Activity logs around those times for unusual warnings or errors

6. You can also Google the exact make/model of your SSD to see if it needs a firmware update or other maintenance
