>>>Science, schmience.
>Al Gore ain't no scientist and has a vested interest.
>So, why pay attention to him?

I was responding to your "Science, schmience" taunt wrt somebody else's link.

>>So go to it- remembering that even if the US can somehow reduce its 5% share to 0% of world emissions, that's still not enough to save the planet per Pascal's wager.
>>That doesn't mean we can't use common sense.

Even if all other nations except China and India band together to reduce their own emissions per targets: common sense math confirms the planet is still doomed according to currrent thinking. Meanwhile the $ billions of ransom demanded by China and India if they're to reduce emissions at some point in the future, will undo all the jobs currently returning to the US and restore the market distortion Trump just normalized via tariffs. The likes of Romney might argue that a few million blue collar jobs is worth it to save the planet- except that it won't, according to current thinking.

Ironically, cheap natural gas actually has the US doing quite well on reducing emissions while saving money- which is not how the Paris Accord was supposed to work.

>>Ditto with cars.
>>I've been driving Camry Hybrids since 2009.
>>The latest one, a 2018, is insanely efficient. On one trip I got it up to 58 mpg.

That's commendable. For interest, how is NJ power generated?

>>I was at a graduation party last weekend held at the home of the grad's wealthy parents.
>>It was a McMansion of the worst kind. Huge rooms, high ceilings, etc, etc.
>>They had the A/C blasting with all the doors open.
>>That's obscene.

Most Auckland housing stock from the late 1800s/early 1900s has the high ceilings, rattly single glazed sash windows and little if any insulation. Testament to hardy colonial stock and relatively benign climate- no snow in Auckland, but by today's standards houses are damp and freezing in Winter. Government has legislated for insulation, initially by subsidy and now legislatiion for rental property to meet standards. My own place was built when firewood and coal was cheap, with eight open fireplaces... instead we sourced big cast iron radiators from banks driven by natural gas boiler to deliver radiant rather than convected heat.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
