>>>I guess everyone was watching that new MSNBC comedy show on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. I watched the College Baseball World Series. It looks like Vanderbilt will have at least 2 recent graduates with starting salaries in the millions.Maybe I should have majored in baseball.

>>After ten years, I have a TV again, but I'm not watching it. It's for gaming only - not connected to any other source of signal but the consoles and local network. So it gets to Netflix at times, daughter watches a movie here and there. But no TV.

>>So whenever you say "I guess everyone was watching", consider the "everyone" is slightly false.

>I can understand that. I have satellite TV but for 25 years I haven't had the major network package (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX) - and I don't miss them.

It's not just the advertising, it's that it's the proverbial king Midas in reverse: anything it touches turns into shit. Any place that starts making money by selling ad space ends up having only the content which may attract ads and nothing else. And that content is formatted to accommodate ads - article continues ten pages later, forcing the reader to leaf through the publication; one hour episodes start as 50 minute episodes (check ST TOS) which then get expanded to 40 minutes (check Voyager etc); you can't hear anything longer than nine minutes on the radio because that's when an ad must go in, even if it's just the station's call sign - which is self advertising, same Midas to me.

When the remaining four relatives, who still occasionally call me on the landline, pass away, I seriously think of cancelling it, simply because there's no donotcall.org over here. The telemarketers fully deserve all the shit I serve them when they call, for abusing a private channel of communication for their filthy business.
