You had it almost 100% right; you dont need to find any "extreme cases". The standard procedure today is (1) just find anything you dont agree with, (2) categorize it using one of several off-the-shelf "anti-whatever" phrases, (3) threaten to withdraw financial support, and (4) get rid of it. No discussion necessary. Everyone homogenized.
