>>> Anyway, the team chief decided against using 32-bit version too, simply because it's now equally impossible to deploy the runtimes to about thousand workstations and to instruct about a hundred IT morons how to do that.

>What runtimes? "Include VFP Support Library" includes it with the exe = no more runtimes... plus if you embed encryption/Zip as ASM or C++ code, you can start dropping reliance on external flls.

>As for ActiveX: big hassle to replicate in x64. However, features like BACKSTYLE_ACCESS can be used to mimic Commoncontrols ActiveX controls like the treeview. We considered a direct VFP drop-in class for the Treeview in particular, except that the .Nodes(n).method syntax is tough in VFP needing massive object duplication or detailed error trap manoevering to intercept- so we re-did it to match our standard hierarchy cursor that deprecates most of the load code and delivers Grid performance. Final result is fewer than 10 files and no ActiveX that can be copied to one folder on a new machine with properly configured ini and it will run.

The FalseTree vcx I downloaded here is actually completely to my liking, and if it was my choice, I would have taken the time to replace the clumsy (and, very much, unnecessarily complicated) code needed to maintain the old treeview.
The other AXes in use are partly quite unnecessary - the listview for example, I don't think anyone uses the icon view when they have more than five items to show. It's the third party things which are in use, sometimes not in production any more, so there's nowhere to find a new one. Some of those are rather important to the functioning of the app - so we're stuck with the last COM version (as later versions are all .net only) which is 32-bit only.
