>Yes, in terms of peace of mind - no M$ stuff at all except Fox itself. So I don't have to keep the split personality aka two OSes on the same box, remember what's on VM's local disk and what's in shared space etc etc. Now it's all together. Notice my new employer... :), I'm finally doing what I wanted for years. Spent a whole day moving the stuff I wanted to keep and then shut down the W7 VM. Bliss.

Diffrent strokes... I see the effort to separate my data via scratch disk only sometimes visible from internet aware VMs as necessary security added to external backups. W2K and XP were great IMO and I am happy to use my old Office97 for weekly tasks cropping up - on todays HW it fulfills Al's definition of snappy software from a few threads back.

Back in 2000 I used versions 2 and IV of Excel and Word from 16-bit windows, as they did not feel like walking in swamp on Pentium and early Athlons.
Under NT I had still used Borlands Quattro and MS Word for a looong time.... Had an external 120MB optical R/W, which allowed me to bring my environment to the desktops I was working on, as laptops were not beefy enough back then....

ShDocVw = Shell Doc Viewer = IE.
I think best compatibility with vfp was under IE6, but that may be biased as I did a lot of stuff with that combo.
So Install IE6 on Wine and try again... IIRC best install IE first, then vfp.

https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=25
says "garbage", so try once max, then go for 7 or 8. I would NOT try 11 first and work myself down: while ShDocVw and MSHtml probably mirror better original, original sometimes sends you astray with vfp ;-)

>>>Now that I got rid of Windowses, the slight trouble remains that several among my favorite tools (class browser, environment manager, GoFish) use a browser object in this or that shape, and it's not available by default under wine. Does anyone still bother with this kind of setup, and has some useful advice, or should I continue investigating on my own?

>>>In some other cases, it's OLEObject = C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ieframe.dll - go figure.
