Look at threads 135172 and 161132 (hope I copied them correctly) for discussions on this problem. Mainly, you put the code to switch off the combo in the combo's valid.
What I do is shorten the combo until only the arrow shows, and put the textbox where the 'body' of the combo box normally is. Then when the combobox has focus I expand it to a width that covers the text box. When it loses focus it 'contracts' and the text box shows.
