>> Trump - with his reactions to the recent shootings - has shown that he has to reach up to touch bottom.

For interest- what was it that so dismayed you, and what would you have liked to have seen from him?

To many of us out here, we see that POTUS doesn't have the power of a Prime Minister who by definition enjoys support from government and cabinet, so can drive legislation. Whereas POTUS appears to have no power of legislation: that's for Congress and while POTUS may have veto power, that doesn't help if Congress continues its tradition of fixing the blame rather than the problem wrt mass shootings. POTUS seems to be limited to sympathy and prayer unless people believe starting a foreign war or imposing a tariff or closing the border would help- and even those powers granted by previous congress or constitution seem to be subject to veto by unelected activist judiciary.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
