>>Nope, too lazy to go through the installation process :), and OTOH too busy doing other things - like my version of full text indexing, or putting serif fonts on all of my controls or adding pastel color backgrounds. Ever since we left FPD, the screen is technically capable of more colors and yet it has more grays than ever. So I'm doing some remedial work in that direction.

>Full text indexing - quite close to the phonetic and similarity searches I sometimes have to cope with. Too bad I never bought a copy of PhdBase when it was on the market, might have given me ideas and/or benchmarks to compare with, both in speed and in result quality. Wish I could find it anywhere

PhDbase was discontinued because of problems when a new VFP version (8?) was released. It would work until the tables reached a certain size, then it would crash VFP and even ruin the data if you were unlucky. They found no solution, and decided to stop the sale.

>>>And BTW - which Linux did you settle on ?

At the moment switching between different window managers while working totally without electronic desktop - leave screen to working windows or machine info via conky. Start programs only via menu created from single text file... KISS is nice and only physical desktop is a mess. Still undecided if I miss the way Win7 child windows or twice started programs are ordered horizontally above single entry on status bar - or if it is worth the effort to read up on customizing
