>>Then the windows scheduler will be the approach (if customer approves, of course).

This year we replaced a 24/7 service-with-timer app that kept stalling in the night. Reasons included database backups, server restarts and other routine events that affect an app running 24/7. Point this out to the customer- that using a schedule inste,ad, means they can manage systems as they please without worrying whether it takes the service down.

The other possibility is something like "Alwaysup" that supposedly restarts a service if it hangs and raises alerts if things go really bad. Have not tried it.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
