>>>Focusing on the "other" might be fun and it can energize a lot of people for a while, but it rarely accomplishes more than making gaps between people wider.

Great question.

The "others" i don't want us to isolate are groups.
"Liberals", "Right winger", "Tree huggers","Gun lovers". "MSM", etc.
Someone I call a dear friend can't go to sleep without watching Fox News and loves anything said by any repub.
This guy has 5 bronze stars. He's a great guy.
On the other hand I know some despicable people who call themselves liberals.
Lay into Nancy Pelosi, AOC or Barack Obama all you want but when we start energizing people by vilifying "other" groups society is diminished.

Regarding Jim Mattis - check this out:
It's long and the segment where he discusses his refusal to pummel Trump is at the end.
https://www.c-span.org/video/?463748-1/defense-secretary-jim-mattis-discusses-military-career-leadership

I admire what he said, but none of that applies to me.

Trump is disgusting, degenerate and despicable
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
