Just a message concerning GIS with a VFP deskop applications. I have a dummy understanding of data structures that recent GIS tech requires nor have I a grasp the programmatic layers requested to incorporate GIS functionality within a desktop application. But sure I'd be quite glad to incorporate some map-based functionality into some of our applications.

Has any UT member successfully incorporated some sort GIS-functionality within their VFP-based applications?

I am certainly not looking for delivering a full-fledged GIS-management application. Neither am I looking for google-mapping a traditional desktop application via a third-party html front-end such as MS-IE or chromium. The best would possibly be something like an ActiveX or COM-based solution that could provide some map-based functionality to our solutions.

I understand - via googling - that their is the free an open source "MapWinGIS.ocx". There may as well a solution by TatukGIS called "TatukGIS Developer Kernel for ActiveX". And possibly a few hidden gems.

What am l looking for? A plain ability for users to query their databases by maps i-e via selecting records based on address via drag'n-drop on strictly geographical 2D maps.
