>>Hi,
>>
>>Does anybody know if, when a money is transferred from a European bank to an American bank, the conversion takes place in Europe or in the USA. That is, more specifically, does the USA bank receive the money in Dollars? or the USA bank received the amount in Euros and then converts it into the Dollars?
>>I tried to look online and I can't find a definitive answer. Maybe, if someone has this type of transaction done for them or their business, he/she knows.

>Don't really know - when I pay something in dollars (or CAD, like subscription here) it comes from my € account and the amount looks about right, didn't really check. What looks completely wrong is when you bring € into the US and try to convert them into USD. It's unbelievable, Wachovia took about 10 days, had to send money to Atlanta and then wait for the whole transaction to clear, and then their way of calculating the amount cost me some serious percentage.

>The same transaction can be done here in 10 minutes on any of the exchange kiosks... unless you really want dollars. The US have forced all banks here (and in probably many other countries) to keep track of banknote serial numbers, and the passport/id numbers of persons holding them (either as buyers or sellers), in an unprecedented move to own the data under the guise of fighting terrorism. The paperwork is a killer, so nobody likes to deal with USD. Last time one of our family traveled to US, we had to dial perhaps a dozen exchanges until we found one which would have dollars, and even that had to be scheduled, just to make sure the money will be there when we arrive.

>Any other currency, just walk to the nearest exchange kiosk. No paperwork except for dollars.

Thank you for your input.
