JR>And yet, white kids do go to school with black kids in 2020.
BF>Where have you been?
BF>https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/26/nyregion/school-segregation-new-york.html
BF>NYC might have the most racially segregated schools in the US

NY segregation is blamed on SHSAT that sees Black and Latino students who comprise almost 70% of the catchment, achieving only 9% of places in coveted academic schools. The solution apparently is to remove the exam, replacing it by self-assessed rankings from all schools.

Here's another idea: why can't Latino and Black kids excel at SHSAT? Simply accepting it as a fact risks the racism of low expectations, surely.

I had my suspicions wrt reasons, knowing that some standardized US tests are quite difficult for students unfamiliar with mainstream US vocab and culture... but (despite an apparent fascination with California legislation in the comprehension questions) SHSAT looks more neutral, focused on comprehension, basic logic and standard math and science. It's a concern if students entering high school are struggling with this sort of test. I can't see that canceling the test solves anything- it just risks accusations that socialists are spreading under-achievement into and across more High Schools.

>>Rich whites have created situations where black people can't possibly afford to live in the same school district as white kids.

And yet I have personal knowledge of rich white jostling to share the same Harvard dorm as an Obama daughter. Meanwhile her parents bought a $15M seaside mansion in a >95% white area that is delighted to receive them (despite the whole area due to be flooded in 12 years according to climate predictions.) So what you're actually describing is Elite behavior: there may be plenty of Asians in the Elite but today there are fewer Blacks and Latinos. Have no fear, Black and Latino Elites are and will be just as eager to insulate themselves from you riff raff as their white peers.

>>Another ploy has been to send their white kids to private schools that black people can't possibly afford.

Perhaps you'll look past the "foreign" thing to believe I have some insight here? ;-) I think you'll find plenty of Asians and increasing numbers of Latinos and Blacks in those schools, all socializing freely with white kids at a similar achievement level. None of them is there to avoid contact with blacks - they're there because private education tends to weed out families/individuals who don't value academic or sporting achievement. FWIW, those schools quietly offer scholarships to disadvantaged kids who illustrate work ethic and leadership capability. Surely that does more for downtrodden communities than blaming racism. It's worth reviewing the school history of somebody like Ben Carson: often these people get ahead thanks to quiet assistance from people you call racist while those doing all the labeling never seem to help that much.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
