while the topic deserves more than satiric comments, surpressing them won't help either.
If you read my comments to Hank, you know that my interest in the topic is a bit higher than usual.
"Official" statements by politicians (here as well!) were so against all math normally taught in High School that repeated facepalms happened - too bad they did not happen to politicians faces...
Media is driven by sensationalism and probably oscillating between wish to be at least partially correct and not to worsen the local situation much.
At least you should acknowledge that exponential growth (as expected by really new virus) happened AND was reported from China, but downplayed in Western political statements - even if medical scientists were clear to point out facts as they mirrored things at least hinted at in reports from China.
And yes, I stand by my misgivings about "total truth" from there as mentioned to Hank ;-)

Sad fact is that only morsels of truth can be found in Eastern and Western media, even if Western media is not state controlled - there are enough other mechanisms at work to dilute true picture.
