>>Conclusions and Relevance The preliminary findings of this study suggest that the higher CQ dosage should not be recommended for critically ill patients with COVID-19 because of its potential safety hazards, especially when taken concurrently with azithromycin and oseltamivir. These findings cannot be extrapolated to patients with nonsevere COVID-19.

These brave authors use a desperation cocktail in patients doing badly, with authors honestly reporting that their cocktail turns out not to be recommended for severely unwell patients, but can't be extrapolated to the rest.

The issue is that thousands of physicians are already offering CQ as immediate treatment for generally well patients walking in the door. They must think there's value and/or patients are demanding it... but does it actually work, and who will be brave enough to offer a double blind trial with placebo- and what sort of patient will agree to paticipate in these fraught times? Not sure how soon we can hope for double blind trials but we can hope for observational papers, ideally with defined cohort and biases factored in...
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
