When you install 7-Zip you can also integrate it with your Windows Shell, so you see it on right-click options on .ZIP and .7Z files. You can extract using the 7-Zip File Manager. It has options for flat-view and folder view.
.ZIP files provide a certain level of compression.
If you switch to .7Z you'll find much better compression rates, and faster compression times. You can typically run .7Z on Normal and it will be about as fast as .ZIP on Fast, but it will have far better compression rates on most data and source code files.
