Hmm we lost about 38K people to traffic deaths in 2019. More in 2018 and 2017.
During those 3 years we lost more people to traffic deaths than we've lost to the virus.

Having misspent a good slice of my career in the transportation world, I can tell you that higher speeds correlate directly with highway deaths and vice versa.
