>>Do you suppose this has anything to do with the fact that yesterday was Sunday and only 56,877 were tested v. 121,058 on Friday and that the population that were tested on Sunday had a more likely reason to be tested?

For interest: as of August, Taiwan with its 24M population had performed not many more COVID tests *in total* than were performed in Florida over the weekend. Taiwan also exerted control without lockdown, reporting a total of 7 COVID deaths.

As for the rest of us: of course the more you test, the more cases you will confirm if there's infection about. Which is why positive tests are not useful as a sign of doom or failure, more as denominator when trying to calculate mortality. The US is actually helping the world, since you're now testing lots of young people with their very low mortality or even symtoms a lot of the time. Testing is what allowed WHO to reduce its initial alarming 3.4% mortality to around .3% and then to - what? You'll struggle ti find latest figures because it's submerged in finger pointing and yelling.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
