I will carefully check all the options in the Family portal. Although yesterday when I was troubleshooting this, I didn't see anything. I think business customers pay more and they probably get a better support. Well, compared to the Family support, which is nothing :)

Thank you!

>It really sounds like a sign in/authentication issue.

>With M365 business tenancies, you can go into the portal...admin center...users...active users. In user properties there is "View Office activations". You can see if your computer's M365 app activation is assigned to the correct M365 account, and there are options to manage such as deactivating within the portal so it can be reactivated later, perhaps under a different account. I don't know if a family/personal portal has something similar.

>>When I used the Word from MS 365, some weeks ago, I accepted the license agreement. And all worked well, until I started messing around with the user name. I think when I had the problem with the profile, specifically I remember that when I was starting the PC, the error message was pointing to the Skype. And I don't even use the dreaded Skype on this PC. But I suppose MS has it as part of the MS 365.
>>In any event, the MS 365 on my PC got corrupted (or messed up) and no longer has my license information.
>>
>>I wish I knew if uninstalling and installing will recreate the license.
>>
>>On the Family MS 365 there is no help on the Account site. And I can sign in into my Account - in the browser, no problem. I use the same email and the password when trying to Activate the Word. But it does not work. Not even a message of what is wrong. I wish I knew the file name where Windows 10 caches my MS 365 profile; I would delete it and maybe it would be recreated. One more thing, when I look at my MS 365 account in the browser, it shows that I am licensed on the PC where I am trying to make it work. Family license allows up to 5 computers. I only use 2.
>>
>>I will try the " Control Panel...Programs and Features." and Repair. If it does not work, I may uninstall it.
>>I will there was a support number for MS. I would pay to get this damn thing repaired.
>>
>>Thank you very much for your help.

>>>As I mentioned in another thread I work mainly with M365 business tenancies but I believe some concepts are in common with personal or family plans.
>>>
>>>First, everything that follows assumes you're talking about current M365 desktop apps, and that you're not doing something like using (say) Office 2010 against an M365 Exchange Online mailbox.
>>>
>>>With the M365 desktop apps there are 2 main concepts:
>>>
>>>- Accepting the license agreement. This must be done the first time each new profile/user starts up an Office app on a given computer. I mention this because you had recent profile issues with your computer
>>>
>>>- Licensing is wholly a matter of signing in to your M365 account.
>>>
>>>Using a brand new Windows computer as an example, most these days from major OEMs come with all the M365 desktop apps already installed, so you don't have to download them from the portal. To use them:
>>>
>>>1. Start any Office app other than Outlook - I always use Word
>>>
>>>2. If you're asked to accept a license agreement, do so
>>>
>>>3. Word will start and you'll probably be asked to sign in to your M365 account. Do so - these may or may not be your Exchange Online credentials. Not having worked with them I'm not sure how family or personal plans work. With a family plan you may need to sign in with the "master" account, or if you're using a secondary account, that account must be duly set up in the family plan with its own M365 credentials
>>>
>>>4. If your sign in to M365 works properly, Windows 10 will cache those credentials in your profile. You should rarely if ever need to manually sign in to the M365 desktop apps again
>>>
>>>5. If you don't sign in properly, I believe a fresh install of the M365 desktop apps will work fully for some period of time - maybe 30 days or 30 app openings (?) but will give you warnings about activation. To activate you need to sign in to your M365 plan. If you're outside the grace period and not signed in, I believe the apps still work but with very limited functionality, and will repeatedly ask you to sign in
>>>
>>>6. You can easily check your M365 account credentials by trying to sign in to the portal at https://portal.office.com . If you can't get in there, you're not using the right credentials
>>>
>>>7. After you're signed in properly to M365 in Word, you can go into Outlook and set that up. I don't use Outlook first because it has its own initial account setup and you can get into a mess if you're not already signed in properly to M365
>>>
>>>A few other things:
>>>
>>>- if you have both "personal" and "work" M365 accounts with the same e-mail address, you'll be asked which one to use when you sign in. If you don't get that right, sign in won't work
>>>
>>>- I don't know how personal or family plans work with number of machines on which you can install the desktop apps. Some allow you to install on multiple machines per M365 account or family user. If you exceed that number you might run into issues but I think you get an error message to that effect. You can go into the portal and manage the machines on which you've signed in to M365 i.e. remove ones not being used
>>>
>>>- The "Feedback" option in the Office desktop apps is not for support. Get support by signing in to the portal. I'm not sure how personal/family plans work but with business tenancies you can go into the Admin center, then at the bottom right you get a question mark (see image) where you can access help
>>>
>>>- The new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser is tightly integrated with Windows 10 and M365. If you're signed in properly to M365 and Windows 10 is remembering your credentials, when you start Edge and go to an M365 site such as the portal it goes straight in, you don't even have to sign in. This is convenient when it's working. If it's not working it can be impossible to get in using the new Edge; in that case use another browser such as Google Chrome
>>>
>>>- Reinstalling the M365 desktop apps: I'm not sure how that would help in your case but you could try it. It sounds like your issue is signing in/authentication. Until you get Word showing your name and account as "signed in" (hover over or click on it) in the top right title bar, you're not signed in properly. If you reinstall the apps but can't sign in, you'll still have the same problem
>>>
>>>- If Word shows that you're signed in at the top right, check that the account information is correct. If it isn't, manually sign out, then sign back in with the correct account/credentials. If you're having profile issues or cached credentials issues, you could try a manual sign out/sign in process anyways, that's more likely to be effective than reinstalling the whole product
>>>
>>>- The desktop apps have 2 repair options available from Control Panel...Programs and Features. Right-click on the M365 apps and select Change. You can then opt to Quick repair (fixes common issues) or Online repair, which basically re-downloads the entire product suite and reinstalls it, which can take some time
>>>
>>>>After a problem I had with my Windows 10 PC (which I seem to have successfully resolved), I have an issue with the MS 365. The problem is that when I open any MS 365 program (e.g. Word), the top message says "Unlicensed." And when I open any Word document, I see the message "Activate". I click on Activate, prompted to enter my email. I do, click Next. I get no error message but I am still not logged in and the Activate message does not go away.
>>>>
>>>>I can log into the MS 365 Family Account (on either Windows 7 or the Windows 10), no problem. And I see that I use the MS 365 on Windows 7 and Windows 10. But on Windows 10, I am supposedly "unlicensed."
>>>>
>>>>Many times I clicked on Send Feedback and described the problem. But no reply from MS.
>>>>
>>>>What would you suggest I do? One idea I have is to completely uninstall the MS 365 and install it again. Does it make sense?
>>>>
