Realistically this shouldn't be a perf overhead since no real conversion has to occur - if anything it should improve performance since SQL doesn't have to figure out the actual field size after all the data has returned.
But yeah - due diligence is always a good idea regardless even if obvious. But again, we're looking at the final selector so I can't imagine that having any sort of significant overhead.
