I usually get this message when some automation is included and the COM server is displaying error message.
When I automate Word MailMerge no matter what are the setting for DisplayAlerts if there are merge fields that are not available word stops and displaying a message. You cans see it if you use Alt+Tab. The message does not appear in task bar.
The other reason is if you use Avast CleanUp and put Word/Excel into sleep. Then you must start the application first and then you can use automation.
