>Kind of odd. the icann site says 2022, but when I try to go to the chatter4u site, it says "chatter4u.com expired on 01/19/2021 and is pending renewal or deletion" in the upper right corner.
A lot of registrars "hold" a freshly expired domain for a grace period, in case the owner forgot to renew. In the bad old days cybersquatters would pounce on domains literally the second their registration expired and then ransom them back to the rightful owner. Nowadays during a grace period only the previous domain owner can renew.
My understanding is the registrar indicates that the domain is not available to be registered by anyone else by adjusting its expiration date. I've seen 30-day grace periods, but never a full year - that's a bit unusual.
