It depends on what else you want to do with the users.
I use a separate user table in the SQL db. The app also allows admins to assign privileges to user.

>>>I have a desktop application (VFP9) which runs in a Windows Network. I always used applications users to log into it, but now I need to develop auditing mechanisms on the database and I guess using native SQL Server users and/or Windows users would ease programing this. Which way should I choose? Their use is conditioned to something?

>>If I understand your question correctly. I have a table in the SQL Server and a class in the app that creates a record in this table for every other table change. Logging who made the change, what time, and specific change. Then, I have a bunch of reports that show any changes done to a table. Therefore, a user or an admin person can view complete audit trail of change. If I misunderstood your question, ignore my input.

>Thanks for replying. Really your reply is what I need to do. But I want to know whether I should use SQL Logins or, instead, register Windows users into SQL and use them for my auditing purposes.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
