That almost reminds me of the bit with the American comic book characters of Batman and Joker. Over the years in the comic books the characters' are revealed to have been intertwined.
The Joker's visage (as well as his madness) was due to effects of the chemicals within a vat into which he'd fallen while trying to escape Batman (the injuries sustained caused a permanent grotesque smile, his skin turning a ghastly white, and hair green).
Batman came into being because of an incident in his childhood where his parents were murdered in front of him by a thug -- which created a desire to strike back at criminals. It turns out the thug that killed his parents was the same person who had fallen into the vat of chemicals and became The Joker.
So Batman made the Joker, and The Joker happened to be the thug that was responsible for Bruce Wayne to become Batman.
