>>>I certainly understand that even after 2 COVID shots, a person isn't "pristine" right away. I get that.
>>>
>>>But there's a face validity issue (or at least question) here - why would Ford be announcing this right after the first release of the vaccines?

>>Not announcing ASAP just to find a lull period in news seems bad as well...

>>While I certainly can follow the reasoning for hearing impaired, smiles I think might be less relevant than better filtering or less problems for people wearing glasses.

>The mask are a real problem to my youngest son and his wife. They are both deaf and depend on lip reading to communicate with people who do not know sign language.

I'm on 50% disability from the USAF because of hearing loss related to explosions in Korea.
The VA gives me hearing aids that are pretty good, but I still read lips. Cover your mouth and I have a hard time understanding you, so yes, masks are a problem.
People have been great though. When I explain the issue, we both back off a few feet, they lift up the mask and repeat till I get it. I keep mine on, so one mask is better than none.
Your son and daughter-in-law have a much more profound hearing loss, for sure, so my solution might not work for them but I'm rooting for them.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
