>>While the above is true, expecting a looming fever crisis smart leadership would not only have provided ample thermometers but also a cadre of well-trained practitioneers in the art of temp reading....

Agreed; a flurry of law suits after the election is too late, as courts told them repeatedly. And lets not forget the number of states that refused to participate in the federal election integrity review after the last election. Trump's crew should have known what to expect. This behavior reminds me of the GOP's belief in universal healthcare without personal mandate/universal contribution. Makes no sense from afar.

>>I am not too versed on the whole enchilada of US voting procedures. Seen from here things discussion on voter ID as a measure to disenfranchise minorities seem strange, not knowing the scope of checks and balances added keeps my estimate on the anecdotal side, in part clouded by literature references on political machines not only deciding candidates in backroom sessions but also trying for dead man voting, multiple residences and similar stuff.

The Democrats say that requiring voter ID disenfranchises Democrat voters who don't have driver licenses or any other form of ID. Republicans say that allowing voting without ID and/or inadequately overseen postal voting is an invitation to voter fraud. Both sides have some validity, but it's overblown with no middle ground possible.

>>On eagle eye view, I think I have often written on the eroding center in the 30ies and extreme left and right arguing with billy clubs. Another facet of my hesitation to applaud banning Trump from Twitter.

Today's billy clubs are passive-aggressive snipes and "othering" tactics- and I agree that martyring Trump is half-witted.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
