>I have never been in such college and religious surroundings, but at 17 being THAT awkward around females seems very strange. Only having drunken blunders as tactic to initiate physical contact at that age for me either points to abysmally low hormone levels and/or lack of imagination and desire to experiment. I clearly remember interest (and some attempts to be alone with them) in a few girls last 16 months or so in elementary school (which is only 4 years here, but with me having turned 7 just a few days before first day of school) without idea on what was interesting/drawing me and certainly no refined plan on how to proceed when reaching isolated and unobserved spots.
Almost the same here... unexplained curiosity around the 4th grade. First attempts at courting around 6th, first girlfriend before turning 17 (and she 15, and BTW german). OTOH, by the end of high school I was the only guy in the class who had one, and more than half of the girls in the class had boyfriends (few of them going through their 20th relationship...). The horrors of socialism, eh?
IOW, anything can be proven by a suitable sample, but either way I wouldn't want the judge to be on either thin end of the statistical spread. While we can't exactly point out what's normal, extremely off-normal isn't hard to spot.
