Just a follow-up....I was an adult instructor for years and my wife taught French. We both realize that the "old-fashioned" approach of showing your work, step-by-step, can be a real challenge for some kids. The solution isn't to revert to this "white supremacist" crap - it's in teachers finding creative ways to help kids approach the original question from a different angle....and THEN work it back to the original approach.

Many times when I help my daughter out with math problems where there are several steps (have to find an average or ratio first, before moving on), I'll use every relatable example I can think of - everything from slices of pizza to pennies, etc.

She also had some difficulty understanding the concept of median average versus weighted average....and so I walked through 10 different rankings of a youtube video...some that were done by 3 people and some that were done by 100 people. (She was having some problems understanding why a 100% on a 5-question quiz didn't raise her grade as much as one with a 20 question quiz)

So you go through those processes until the kid sees the pattern. And THEN you go back and map it out to the tried and true approach. Because at some point, that "white supremacist" approach they keep mocking will become their friend.

THIS is what disturbs me the most about the movements in education. An entire galaxy of stupid.
