My view: when blessed with power by whatever means, it takes some fortitude not to behave in entitled self-serving manner. When it comes to government, some in every political spectrum have what it takes; others don't. Sadly, those who don't are in the ascendancy in both government and opposition practically everywhere you look.

Historically, one of the surest ways to "make sure you have what it takes" to serve the people, was the concept of Royalty as long as it indoctrinates scions that theirs is to be a lifetime of service, not lording it over others or seeking advantage. But too often this is ruined by somebody who decides they are the Sun King and provokes revolution. The current UK Monarch clearly has had what it takes for all her decades of service, but who knows what will happen next. Comforting factor is Churchill's old quip that democracy is the worst form of government apart from all the other forms tried from time to time. When the bad eggs get smelly enough, they can be voted out, at least in theory.
