If you're familiar with VFP, I'd stick with it if you can. VFP is THE tool for database management.
But, for VB, there's lots of resources out there. Post your questions here, and check out Microsoft's VB site - they have papers and such that provide good learning tools. Here's a few of good VB sites to get you started:
