Sorry, was an attempt at weak sarcasm on embolded word choice - it is a "gain" in the particular sense of a sprinter viewing "gaining" a few KG of pure fat tissue - with the fat "gains" he probably "gains" in the sense of "adds or "needs" more seconds running from start to finish , but his wish is not to gain, but to lose those particular seconds ;-)
