Way back in main frame days I took over the management of a fairly large group of programmers who spent a lot of time debating the comparative virtues of COBOL vs PL/1.
I took some zealots from each side, formed a committee and asked them to show me how the choice of either side would yield more benefits in time than the time spent arguing. If they couldn't they had to choose one.
The committee came back and told me to use COBOL.
Lesson learned - when you have zealots put them on a committee.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
