Good Morning Bill,

In a sense everybody with such problems (to be true, everybody) need society to got reflections. in a way we are Mikes mirror. I know nothing about Mike, but to sit alone will not help him.
As you wrote - a broken leg reveals itself to the patient. Mental problems must be torturing enough, and in most cases it needs close friends or a break down to put the idea and acceptance in ones mind. Or - the way I have done - one owns a strange analytical mind and is able to be true to oneself. Sometimes.
I have seen the ones where the clinic has hammered the idea in the mind of friends, I have seen groups of teenagers with experienced members that where able to talk others into seeking help.
Often a long treatment of psychotherapy started with a harsher cure in a clinic was able to put the people back into tracks - without psychopharmaceuticals. Those only hush over. A doctor told me once, psychopharmaceutical drugs are in 80% good if you don't have the will/power to start psychotherapy. (The other 20% are the once to much over the edge) As long as you might move yourself, suffer and dispense. There is no fast cure.

What everybody can do is reflect, carefull push back on tracks and bear it. If one is fast enough, sometimes mincing words to show different aspects of something.
If there is one thing, people really like to safely express there fears. Find a safe place for a while.
Words are given to man to enable him to conceal his true feelings.
