Similar to Al I see some sources running the suicide story. The tweet you cite *is* from Oct, nothing current there.
Could be legend building or literal truth - but "literal truth" and source are not what first comes to mind...
OTOH as deportation was planned, the thought of next part of the journey without the food triggered it.
