Among dozens of other snafus in english, the word datum exists but does not mean a singular of data. It means the sea level, or any other distance from planet's center which counts as surface and is used as a starting point when calculating elevation. In russian, there's данное, a given (which is the straight translation of datum); in hungarian adat (pl. adatok), again a given. In serbian, we have podatak, of the same origin (pl. podaci) only it's a noun.

Only in english there's a problem, AFAIK.
