I was spending a lot of time in NYC when Bloomberg imposed the ban on smoking in restaurants and later in bars.
He took a lot of flak for that from the owners at first, but as you said, some of them later said that business had improved.

The current spikes in some southern states might speak more persuasively than anything you or I can say.
