You have a point, but it's a bit more complex.

Iraq and Afghanistan were invaded by an all-volunteer force. Those people asked to be there.

Vietnam was the last US war that used draftees.
Those who - unlike Trump and GW Bush - had no influential parents or other ways to avoid the draft had to go over to those jungles whether they wanted to or not.
I realize that that subtlety means nothing to the innocent people who were slaughtered there but it does to me.
