Off the top of my head, the node's .selected property needs to be set to .t., and the rest happens automatically (setting it to .f. for the previously selected node, updating gui). And the .SelectedItem seems to be a property without a real value, it's just an _access method which returns one.

But then it's been a while since I last messed with this, so I may be remembering this from some other thing which has such properties.
