It is kinda bizarre the way ostensibly significant political contests have been almost entirely reduced to the level of a sporting event.
It seems like the big question of any head-to-head election should be: What's the difference if one or the other candidate wins?
But no one asked that question in VA and perhaps the candidates wouldn't have been capable of answering it. I can tell you that after weeks of following the news coverage of this race, I have no idea.
So instead it was red vs. blue with the candidates themselves being almost entirely irrelevant to the outcome. Voters went to the polls to choose the governor with the same mentality they'd go to a stadium to support their favorite team.
It's not entertaining. It's depressing.
