Hi,

I wonder if someone could explain why when I execute the BACKUP command with the INIT, the resulting bak file is considerably smaller than with no parameter. Here are the syntax:
backup database mydatabase to disk = N'j:\dell2013\sqlserverbackup\mydatabase.bak'
The above one is about 3 times larger than:
backup database mydatabase to disk = N'j:\dell2013\sqlserverbackup\mydatabase.bak' with INIT
UPDATE: I am reading an article on SQL Server backup and the explanation of the WITH INIT is as follows:
INIT is used to create a new backup set
So, how is the NEW BACKUP SET (which I read as a total backup) much smaller than the FULL BACKUP (not WITH option)?

TIA
