I think it doesn't matter. A desktop window (or was it top window, outside _screen) is modeless, no matter how you .show() it or how's its modality defined in the scx/vcx. Well you can test this right away: when that, allegedly modal, window has focus, try to click the main window. If focus shifts, it was modeless.
