Hi John,

I've been using Citrix for the past 6 months to run VFP5 and FP2.5 DOS applications for remote offices and the feedback has been quite positive. Our configuration is to access Citrix using TCP/IP. We have a burstable T1 connection from our server to the internet. Our 2 biggest remote offices have ISDN connections and the smaller ones access via dial-up to a local ISP and across the net.

We are currently testing new Citrix Metaframe and Microsoft Terminal Server servers so access will look like Windows 95/98 instead of 3.X and response has been positive.

The only negative of VFP5, which still is the same in 6, is the way it handles screen refreshes. However, if you avoid undo screen clutter and global ThisForm.Refresh's performance is more than acceptable. On this note, I did my own testing using a 28.8 modem and found performance of a full blown app including pageframes, grids and graphs, to be more than adequate. HTH

>Thanks for responding! My configuration will not be using dial-up conncetion but will be launched over a WAN T1 currently running at 384 or something similar to that. Its 5 channels of 56k or so. If your having good performance at 33.6 it sounds like speed may not be a big issue after all.

>>Hi John,

>>Against my recommendation, one of our clients went with Winframe to run our VFP6 app from several locations afound the country. The latest version of WinFrame seems to work quite well, much better than PCAnywhere. I dial in with via a modem and I am essentially a work station on the network. I can then map my own system drives and printers and work happily away. BTW I am using only a 33.6 modem.

>>If you want I will inquire into the details of the setup.

>>Hope this helps.

>>>looking for information on using Citrix with VFP6.0. Are the reviews any better with 6.0 than they were with 5.0? There were a mixed bag of reviews for 5.0, but it seemed as though Citrix still remained a viable solution or I should say alternative to C/S.
