Maybe you didn't save or recompile as expected the first time.

Another thing to be wary of is single-letter identifiers, especially "a" through "j" inclusive. Those used to be references to the 10 available work areas in dBASE/FoxBASE. I don't remember if that convention was continued/extended to FoxPro/DOS with its 25 work areas.
At one time you could get unexpected behaviour when using single letter variables "a" through "j" if tables were open in those work areas. I don't know if that also occurred with single-letter function names. I've always avoided single-letter variable and function names so I've never encountered any of those (potential) issues.
