Thanks, Al.

I found references to VFP running well on Mac VMs some years back, but that was when Macbook still used Intel chips. M2 is pretty new and as you note, will involve emulation layers that online articles say can create performance hits. In addition, 12th and now 13th gen I7/I9 reportedly are quicker than M2- but for what? Usually it's for stereotyped huge throughput tests that seem more attuned to video processing or games than database apps. Issue with M2 is that it's like a certain US Healthcare bill: you have to vote for it (buy it) to find out what's in it.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
